Living and working in the United States is a dream for many people. To fulfill this dream, the U.S. Department of State annually implements an immigrant visa program, known as the Green Card Lottery. The goal of the program is to admit a new type of immigrant from countries that have low rates of emigration to the United States. Applicants who are selected under this program must meet simple but strict requirements to qualify. The State Department selects the winners at random using a computer.

Requirements for applicants:

Any citizen of Georgia who has reached the age of 18 can participate in the lottery. The applicant must have graduated from high school or an educational institution whose certificate is equivalent to a high school diploma - or have worked for two years out of the last five years in a profession that requires at least two years of training or two years of work experience.

(You can determine your qualifying work experience using the U.S. Department of Labor’s “O*Net OnLine” database.) You will also need a photograph (which can be taken with us).

If you are married, you will need the registration data and photographs of your spouse and unmarried children under 21 (regardless of whether they are participating in the Green Card draw independently).

Registration Period:

Applications for registration in this year’s Green Card program must be completed electronically from 20:00 on October 2, 2024

20:00 (Tbilisi time) to 20:00 on November 5, 2024 (Tbilisi time). Applicants are encouraged to submit applications early in the registration period, as

the system may slow down significantly due to high demand at the end of the registration period. Late or non-electronic applications will not be accepted. By law,

each applicant may submit only one application during each registration period. Applicants who submit more than one application will be automatically disqualified.

Application Selection Process:

The Department of State will randomly select qualified applications based on the number of visas available in each region and country. To find out the results of the 2026 program, you must log in to the electronic program website at dvprogram.state.gov and use the unique number assigned to you during registration to find out if you have been selected. Status verification will be available from May 8, 2024 to September 30, 2026.

If you win, you will need to go through two additional stages, the first stage is to fill out and submit the application

forms to the immigration service. The second stage is to prepare the necessary documentation and

organize an interview day at the US Consulate. If you pass the interview successfully, you will be given the opportunity to travel to the USA.

Taking a digital photo for a green card:

When filling out the application, you can upload a new digital photo or scan a relatively recent (taken within the

last six months) photo with a special, digital scanner. The submitted digital photo must meet the same compositional and technical requirements as the US visa photo.

Do not submit a photo that is older than six months or a photo that does not meet the

requirements listed below. Uploading the same photo that you uploaded in last year's application, or a photo that has been edited or does not meet the standards will result in disqualification.
